My name is Liz Sumner and I am running for the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, 1st District.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, I spent my first years in the Sherman Park neighborhood before moving to Shorewood, where I attended Shorewood public schools and graduated from Shorewood High School.
After graduating from Marquette University with a BA in Political Science and French, I moved to Seattle where I explored the beautiful outdoors of the Pacific Northwest and fostered my love of fashion and retail. Three years later, I returned to the Midwest, spending eight years in Chicago where I developed my management skills working for home furnishings retailer Z Gallerie and at The Boeing Stores, the retail marketing division of The Boeing Company.
In 2006, I graduated with an MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago with concentrations in Strategy and Finance. It was after that experience that I decided to make the transition to small business ownership and moved home to Milwaukee to open SHOP, a women’s clothing and accessories boutique.
For the past 12 years, I have worked tirelessly to see my business, and other local businesses, succeed. To that end, I served on the Shorewood Business Improvement District Board for six years where I helped steer marketing for the district and create successful events that brought people to the Village to eat, shop, and explore.
My husband, Nathaniel, and I married in 2010 and we purchased our home in Fox Point. Together we are raising our two small children, who, next year, will both be in the public school system and attending religious school at Congregation Shalom, where we are members. In 2015, I was elected trustee to the Fox Point Village Board and was re-elected in the 2018 Spring elections.
Our most valuable community assets should be supported so everyone in our district can enjoy the public spaces. No matter where in Milwaukee County, our public parks will be protected and receive the investment they deserve.
Efficiency of Government
We need to ensure that Milwaukee County serves the people who fund it and is efficient, transparent, and accountable to them. As a community, we deserve the best from our elected officials.
Our most important services are delivered at the local level so we have to leave partisanship at the door. We have to find middle ground so we can provide the crucial public services that our tax dollars pay for.
We're honored to have the support from neighbors, community leaders, and organizations who make our community the best place to live, work, and raise a family. Check back soon for a list of everyone who supports Liz to represent the 1st District of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors.
Our District and Voting
The 1st Supervisory District is the heart of Milwaukee County. From Fox Point to Brown Deer, we have some of the best places to live, work, and raise a family.
It's been an honor to serve Fox Point as a member of the village board, and I look forward to earning your vote on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 to continue this public service as our county supervisor.
